How to Find a Kenyan Lawyer

Finding a Lawyer in Kenya

Have you ever tried to find a lawyer in Kenya for anything that you may wish? To make things worse how confident are you that the lawyer that you is as good as you might think?

I got myself into a bit of a fix recently and thought I thought my problem was simple, it was only when I started looking for a lawyer that I found out how difficult it was to get one in Kenya.

I started looking for a lawyer the only way that Kenyans have left. I asked a few friends who then recommended other friends....I don't have to tell you that this was cumbersome and subject to a painful experience.

Now can you imagine what I had to go through to even find a Kenyan aviation lawyer?

Think about this. Since the Law society of Kenya does not allow lawyers to advertise their services, how is anyone supposed to find a good lawyer in Kenya. Remember that this is a third world country where even finding a copy of the Yellow pages is impossible.

There is already great hue and cry about fake lawyers and terrible lawyers who are allowed to practice. However, since the LSK has the monopoly on information on lawyers in Kenya, the public is left at the mercy of poor quality Kenyan lawyers.

Solutions to Finding Kenyan Lawyers

Maybe the solution can only be found online. Since the advent of Internet access in Kenya, information is now free flowing. Maybe its time that good Kenyan lawyers started their own online community where people can talk about their experiences with the good, the bad and the ugly of Kenyan Law Firms.

The only way that Kenyans can know which lawyers are good is through the sharing of information.

If you have a Kenyan law firm, please tell us about your practice through your own website. A quick perusal in Google shows that there are no more than 10 Kenyan law firms with a web presence.

Kenyan lawyers should consider owning a website the same as starting an office. How can we find you if you cannot be found anywhere online?

Those who have had bad experiences with Kenyan lawyers should also consider starting blogs to discuss their experiences. I believe that the more information we have on Kenyan law firms, the more educated the choice will be when dealing with one.

The LSK should be more proactive in weeding out rogue lawyers. It is not enough for them to tell us that they have ethics rules while their own members are busy stealing and hoodwinking the public.

Have no doubt, there are excellent lawyers in Kenya. The only problem is finding the good one. If we can have a good source of information on the quality of Kenyan lawyers, then we may be able to weed out the quacks amongst us.

Thanks for this info. I just need to clarify a few things:

1. Are Kenyan lawyers allowed to have a website? With Africa coming 'on line' at 1000%+ growth rates on average, it won't be long before the masses start demanding easy access.

2. They seem to be able to advertise in lists and directories (even if it's just a phone number and address). Are they allowed to use Google AdWords? What about Google Maps?

With the current method of 'advertising' it's no wonder the Kenyan law industry is rife with corruption and nepotism.

Any assistance will be appreciated, because I'll be marketing my web design and business services in Africa soon.
